Welcome!

Welcome to the wiki for special collections libraries and archives and social media. This site is intended to be resource for the libraries and archives communities, providing an aggregate of links to the social media sites that special collections libraries and archives use. There is also a section in which we can consider best practices, ask questions, and share ideas with each other. This wiki is organized by social media type:

 Flickr  Twitter
 Facebook  Tumblr

 Instagram

 Blogs
 Pinterest

Wikipedia

 YouTube   Podcast/Other

To add a link to your special collection or library's social media site:

  1. log in (or request access if you have not done so yet)
  2. click on the page you would like to add your link to
  3. click the Edit tab at the top of the page
  4. add the link to your site on the appropriate page using the following format: [Name of institution], [Name of site if applicable], [Link to site]. For example, on the Blogs page: William Andrews Clark Memorial Library (UCLA), The Clog, http://clarklibrary.wordpress.com/
  5. click the Save button at the bottom of the page

Please also visit our Discussion Forum.

Thank you for participating!

It is totally okay to organize these pages -- alphabetically, geographically, etc. and you are also welcome to add other pages. This is a community resource by and for us all. So, have at it!

I created a new Discussion Forum that will (hopefully!) be easier and more intuitive to use. Please feel free to post new topics, join conversations, and suggest other forum topics. The previous pages have been deleted and those comments have been moved into the appropriate forum.

Would anyone be interested in sharing Social Media policy statements and guidelines? I'd be interested to know how many Special Collections have their own policies/ guidelines in addition to the Parent Institution Policy (e.g., University policy)?

Yes, I would be happy to share ours! Were you envisioning a new section on the site?

That would be great, but you can also email me at VCU.
